Heat wave continues
Rare extreme heat bakes Fla.

Extreme heat continues across much of the Eastern U.S., with more heat records falling across the East.

Weather & Radar's Jonathan Petramala, reporting in the video above from his pool in Tampa, explains how this summer heat wave is rare. Tampa recorded its first 100 degree temperature on record on Sunday. Records have been kept since 1890.

The hot weather isn't limited to the Florida Peninsula. The TemperatureRadar is showing highs in the upper 90s in the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast. Newark, N.J., has already broken a daily temperature record when it 101 early Tuesday afternoon.

The Daily Briefing offers more details on today's hot weather.
