Daily briefing: Toasty Northeast ahead of a stormy cold front

Back to regular programming after the long weekend, and while the tropics show signs of life, there will also be a cold front across the Great Lakes, bringing weather with it. All of these details are provided daily in the Weather & Radar daily briefing published every weekday at 5 a.m. ET.

A cold front will be inching closer to the Ohio Valley through Arkansas on Monday. Scattered thunderstorms will move ahead of the cold front as the low-pressure system enters the Northeast. The showers and thunderstorms will ease off by the time the sun sets. Highs will remain between 2 and 5 degrees above normal across the Appalachians and New England, with cities like Boston and New York City expected to reach 90 to 95 degrees.

Out West, low-pressure systems are building. The warmth will continue for the Four Corners and the deserts, with temperatures around 5 degrees above normal. The immediate West Coast will have cooler-than-average temperatures, with a thick and prolonged marine layer that will be in control of the cooler air staying put.

While Chantal formed just off the Georgia-South Carolina coast, it continues to bring some rain bands and wind gusts along the coast of the Carolinas. The rest of the Atlantic is taking a breather.
