The solar eclipse captivated thousands of people across western Europe Wednesday evening. With hardly any clouds to obstruct the view, the celestial spectacle could be seen from the United Kingdom all the way to the Mediterranean.

The sight was particularly spectacular in Spain, where the sun disappeared completely. And as if that weren’t enough, later that evening there were also shooting stars from the Perseids to admire.

The next solar eclipse will take place in less than a year's time. On August 2, 2027, the event will be visible from southern Spain across North Africa to the Red Sea.
