    A Fall Change for Florida

05:00 PM
September 15, 2026

Dry air and strong winds
An Autumn Change for Florida

A change in the wind is on its way to northern Florida, and many northern cities will get a brief taste of fall.

A front, combined with an upper-level low-pressure system, will initially increase the risk of showers and thunderstorms over Florida on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the sea breeze clearly visible on the WeatherRadar, showing the development of thunderstorms in the afternoon. On Wednesday, we'll see the wind shift starting in the afternoon, picking up over northern and central Florida as well, with gusts of up to 30 mph.

With the wind blowing in from the northeast, drier air will move in, causing humidity levels to drop significantly. Although high temperatures will remain between 85 and 89 degrees in cities such as Gainesville, Jacksonville, and even Orlando, we expect it to feel very comfortable because the dew point—which measures how much moisture is in the atmosphere—will drop due to the dry air coming from the north.

In South Florida, the risk of showers and thunderstorms will persist for the rest of the week, as dry air will not make its way into this part of the state. Highs will range from 88 to 90 degrees in the afternoons this week, but with the humidity, temperatures may feel like they’re close to 98.
