A few records will fall
Hot weather heads East

Hot Monday
Hot Monday

The hot weather that has been baking the central Plains this weekend will spread eastward, setting new records for the first half of the new workweek.

The TemperatureRadar shows plenty of red and amber hues from the southern and central Plains eastward into the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic. The hottest temperatures — with highs in the middle to upper 90s— are across west Texas, northward into the high central Plains.

Starting tomorrow and lasting into at least mid-week, a high pressure area off the Southeast Coast, commonly called a "heat-pump" high, will produce a strong southwest flow across the East. This will send hot and humid Gulf air northward up the coast, producing daily record highs in the 90s as far north as southern New England.

A few scattered storms will be possible each afternoon across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, helping to bring a brief respite from the heat. Track those storms on WeatherRadar.
