Through midweek
Record warmth for the Eastern half

Record and near-record highs will stick around across the central and eastern U.S. through midweek.

Spring-like warmth will continue across much of the country today. Above-average highs are expected ahead of a cold front stretching from the Great Lakes and Midwest into the Central Plains today, then shifting toward the Mid-Atlantic tomorrow.

The TemperatureRadar shows highs in the 70s across parts of the Midwest and the Great Lakes today. Today's highs will run 25–35 degrees above average, with several daily record highs possible in cities like Chicago, Des Moines, Iowa, Topeka, Kan., and St. Louis.

The southern tier will also be warmer-than-average. Highs will reach the 70s and 80s, with some locations in the southern Plains, Southeast, and Florida nearing 90 degrees, where additional record highs may occur in cities like Gainesville and Winter Haven, Fla.

By Tuesday, record and near-record highs spread across areas east of the Mississippi River. Cities like New Orleans, Nashville, Tenn., Raleigh, N.C., and Richmond, Va., could see record highs. The record and near-record warmth will be more contained to the East Coast on Wednesday.
