Trout Fire in N.M.
Smoke caught on our WeatherRadar

A large fire started last week and continues to burn about 15 miles north of Silver City in New Mexico.

This is one of those rare occasions when humans did not start a fire. A lightning strike hit the Bureau of Land Management property on June 11 and started the fire. On average, 5 out of 6 fires are usually started by humans on purpose or by accident.

The fire, dubbed the Trout Fire, is located in southwest New Mexico. As of Monday morning, about 33,000 acres had burned, and it was not contained. Some areas have been ordered to evacuate, and authorities warned that there could be more evacuations if the air is dry, there is lots of dry vegetation, and the winds are forecast to pick up every afternoon.
