Daily briefing
Storms linger for East

After a weekend filled with scattered storms and downpours, much of the U.S. east of the Mississippi River will not get a break today. On the flip side, the U.S. western half remains hot. The Weather & Radar daily briefing is published every weekday at 5 a.m. ET with the latest U.S. forecast and updated tropical information.

The WeatherRadar shows waves of thunderstorms and downpours across Texas, the South, Southeast, Mid-Atlantic into the Northeast. Additional afternoon storms are likely across the Midwest and the northern Plains.

Heavy rain remains a major problem across the East and South today.

Today's additional downpours — on top of the rain from the weekend— could trigger localized flash flooding. Make sure alerts are activated to get the latest on today's storm threats.

The western Plains, Rockies, Mountain West, Southwest and the West Coast will stay locked in a summer-like hot and sun-filled pattern. The TemperatureRadar shows highs in 90s throughout the Mountain West and interior California, while triple digits will bake the Desert Southwest and Phoenix could streak above 110 degrees later this afternoon.

Tropical Update

The quiet June continues throughout the Atlantic Basin. No development is expected for the next several days.
