Amid severe drought
Brushfire help for New York City?

In the last several weeks, New York City has been dealing with a record dry streak in addition to gusty conditions creating a perfect fire weather environment. Is there any rain in the forecast?

A strong autumn storm is marching east this, Thursday bringing rain from the Great Lakes to the Southeast, but the Northeast will be left out of the wet weather thanks to high pressure.

A lack of rainfall has severely affected the Northeast with days of red flag warnings being posted by the National Weather Service, particularly in NYC, thanks to gusty winds. Those of us who have not been to the Big Apple may not think fire weather could impact the concrete jungle, but local parks are suffering.

New York City is in a severe drought zone and just had its driest October on record with less than one inch falling all month long. The dry streak has continued into November with little to no rainfall. This has resulted in the perfect storm for brush fires to spark.

The WeatherRadar shows 'nada' when it comes to helpful rain across the Northeast, especially NYC. The only additional water coastal areas may see is a bit of full-moon-induced flooding with the tides as November's full moon rises Friday afternoon.
