Atlantic hurricane season starts today

What to know
Atlantic hurricane season starts today

Today marks the start of the Atlantic hurricane season, and Weather & Radar has features that can help you prepare.

The National Hurricane Center is predicting an above-average 2025 hurricane season. Their forecast calls for 13 to 19 named storms, six to 10 of them developing into hurricanes, and three to five major hurricanes forming this year.

While the forecast may seem ominous, if you live in a prone area, preparation is key no matter what. Even years with below-average activity can be devastating. For example, Hurricane Andrew, which devastated southeast Florida, was the only major hurricane of the below-average 1992 hurricane season.

So what features does the Weather & Radar app offer? First, we have hurricane alerts that are designed to notify you with up to 48 hours of lead time so that you can get a head start on protecting yourself and your loved ones from potentially dangerous hurricane impacts.

You can also monitor systems in the Atlantic with our WeatherRadar and WindRadar. And, starting on Monday, our Daily Briefing will offer a Tropical Outlook published on weekdays through November 30, when the season ends. Weather & Radar's expert meteorologists are ready to keep you up-to-date on the latest.
