On Monday morning, a tornado struck the city of Tours in central France. The area around the airport and the neighboring municipality of Rochecorbon were particularly affected, where the tornado ripped several roofs off buildings.

The tornado first swept across the grounds of Tours Airport at around 10:20 a.m., causing some damage: trees were uprooted and thrown onto the runway.

According to the fire brigade, six houses were damaged in Rochecorbon. Initial assessments indicate that it was a tornado of the lowest category, with wind speeds of up to 72 miles per hour. No injuries have been reported.

Although not as common as in the U.S., Europe occasionally sees tornadoes that can produce damage like this.
