Avalanche threat in Utah

Recent snowfall and gusty winds have prompted avalanche warnings in the Utah mountains. The threat continues through Tuesday morning.

The video above shows the dangerous road conditions in the mountains outside of Salt Lake City. Traction devices were required for vehicles traveling in both the Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons, challenging conditions for holiday travelers.

The WeatherRadar shows snow and high winds in the Utah mountains over the last 24 hours. This heavy snow and lingering winds keep an avalanche threat around through Tuesday morning.

The best thing to do is to avoid avalanche terrain. For those who are skiing, ski areas take hazard reduction measures in these conditions. However, if you want to know if the slopes are open, our ski feature can help!
