    Autumn premiere: Northwest chilly showers

Autumn premiere
Northwest chilly showers

Cooler times across the Northwest.
Cooler times across the Northwest

Autumn, almost like clockwork, is making an appearance in the Pacific Northwest. In fact, today's highs will be among the coldest daytime highs for the date.

A cold front moved off the Pacific late Tuesday, bringing much colder air into the Northwest and northern Great Basin today. As the TemperatureRadar shows, it definitely feels like autumn outside.

Accompanying the colder air is an increased chance of rain showers and even a few rumbles of thunder. It has been a hot and dry summer across the Northwest — many areas are in drought conditions — so the rainfall will be beneficial.

The autumn chill will stick around into the weekend. The rest of the West Coast, down into California, will cool off a bit, too. This is in sharp contrast to the sizzling southern Plains and South, where record-breaking highs are still possible.
