Big travel trouble
Wintry blast hits Plains

A significant winter storm will sweep across the northern Plains and the western Great Lakes later today and Wednesday, bringing dangerous wind-whipped snow and dropping temperatures. Thanksgiving travel will be impacted.

The WeatherRadar shows the system moving across the Dakotas today. It will strengthen as it moves to the east, bringing heavy snow to Minnesota, northern Wisconsin and the western Great Lakes. Travel in and out of Minneapolis and Green Bay will be impacted tonight as white-out conditions occur.

Winter storm sweeping across Upper Midwest
Winter storm will sweep across the Upper Midwest and western Great Lakes, affecting Thanksgiving travel.

On Wednesday, the snow sweeps across the Upper Midwest with even some wet snow falling as far south as Milwaukee and Chicago Wednesday morning. The heavy snow moves into Michigan and causing fresh travel headaches in Detroit. It will continue into eastern Canada while dragging a cold front across the South and Southeast into northern Florida. A few thunderstorms are possible across northern Florida and the Southeast. Keep alerts active to say ahead of the weather.

The snow isn't the only problem from this system. The WindRadar shows gusts reaching upwards of 55 mph, throughout the Midwest on Wednesday. This will cause big snowdrifts while also impacting airport operations at major airports throughout the Midwest and Ohio Valley.

Cold air will sweep southward behind the cold front, sending a winter chill across the central and eastern U.S. just in time for Thanksgiving. The TemperatureRadar shows below-normal temperatures remaining through the weekend with a new storm system moving across the Plains, Midwest and South on Sunday.
