Blizzard conditions in Iowa

Blizzard conditions in Iowa are making travel hazardous. In addition to blowing snow, these winds are leading to a renewed threat of wildfires and spreading dust into the Midwest.

The WeatherRadar and WindRadar show blizzard conditions in place on Wednesday from Kansas to southeastern Minnesota.

Wind gusts up to 65 mph will blow snow around and significantly reduce visibility, making travel treacherous through Wednesday evening. Major highways in Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa are closed due to these conditions.

Blizzard conditions stretch from Kansas to southeast Minnesota.

Residents of cities like Dodge City, Kan., Omaha, Neb., and Sioux City, Iowa, should hunker down until conditions improve and avoid travel.

In addition to the blizzard threat, any wildfires that spark off in the southern Plains will spread quickly due to gusty winds. Dust is also turning skies brown from eastern Texas to the Great Lakes, which may impact today's severe weather threat across central Illinois and western Indiana.
