Breakfast Brief
Active Northwest, rainy Northeast

As we head into the weekend, an atmospheric river will bring rain and snow to the West Coast. Rain and snow also impact the Northeast to close out the work week. The Breakfast Brief is published daily, Monday through Friday, at 5:00 a.m. Eastern time.

The WeatherRadar shows the system that brought severe storms to the south yesterday, moving towards the East and Northeast and weakening today. A few strong storms will be possible along the Gulf Coast. Storms may produce gusty winds in cities like Mobile and Dothan, Ala.

Tonight, moisture from this system will interact with a cold front sagging south into the region, producing wintry weather across the eastern Great Lakes and Northeast. Snow totals will range from 1 to 4 inches.

An atmospheric river will bring rain and mountain snow to the Pacific Northwest and northern California today. Heavy rain along the coast may lead to flash flooding, especially in and around steep terrain. Heavy snow is expected in the Olympics, Cascades, northern Rockies, and portions of the Sierra Nevada.

You'll also want to keep an eye on the TemperatureRadar. Above-average temperatures continue across the eastern half of the U.S.
