Breakfast Brief
Clipper system brings snow, severe weather

A clipper system will trek across the Upper Midwest today initiating snow, rain and even severe storms for the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic. Across the Southeast and in the West, above-average temperatures will bring a summer preview. The Breakfast Brief is published Monday through Friday at 5:00 a.m. Eastern Time.

A clipper storm system is the main focus today as it brings wintry weather as well as spring rain and thunderstorms. The snow will stay in the north from the Dakotas to the Upper Great Lakes while the storm's warmer flank brings rain and thunderstorms to the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic.

The WeatherRadar shows storms getting started after lunch in the upper Ohio Valley and moving south and east through the rest of the day and night. Have at least three ways to receive weather warnings and have your app alerts switched on.

Summer previews are ongoing as we get further into April. The TemperatureRadar shows highs in the 70s and 80s as far north as Columbus, Ohio, and Pittsburgh with mid-80s possible in Georgia, South Carolina and Florida.

To the West, highs as much as 15 degrees above average will reach north into Oregon. The TemperatureRadar shows mid-to-upper 80s in California's central valley with upper 70s in southern Oregon!

Gusty winds will be around in the north-central U.S. where fire weather could be an issue. Be sure to monitor the WindRadar and be careful of lighting anything outdoors.
