The South and the East remain the top spots for soggy, rainy weather heading into the end of the work week. The heaviest rain will move across the South, Southeast and the central Gulf Coast, increasing the chance of flash flooding for millions of people.

1896 deadly tornado

On this day in 1896, a tornado that was 2-miles wide at its strongest, moved through northeastern Kansas and extreme southeastern Nebraska. It killed 25 people after hitting several farm communities.

Today's weather outlook

The WeatherRadar is showing heavy rain moving across the lower Mississippi Valley and into the Deep South. The heavy rain will continue to spread into the South and Southeast as well as expand northward into the Ohio and Mississippi valleys.

Rains showers will make their way into the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic later into the day.

For pleasant weather, the Western half of the U.S. will be the place to be. Plenty of sun will shine from the western High Plains to almost the West Coast. A few showers will be possible across the Northwest while May gray will keep the southern California coast a bit cool and overcast for much of the day.
