Breakfast brief
Flooding threatens South

Breakfast Brief for May 14th

Thunderstorms and downpours socking parts of the Gulf Coast and the Southeast continue to be the lead headline today.

Deadly Rockford, Ill., tornado

On this day in 1928, a deadly tornado hit Rockford, Ill., killing 14 people and destroying 200 buildings. The tornado was on the ground for 25 miles.

Today's weather outlook

The WeatherRadar, as you animate it, will show a low pressure system across the Ohio Valley. This large system will bring showers and thunderstorms throughout the Mississippi and Ohio valleys and the Midwest into the Mid-Atlantic. The shower chances will reach into Northeast and Great Lakes later today.

Additional downpours will roll across the central Gulf Coast, the Florida Panhandle and into the Southeast. This will keep the risk of flash flooding elevated in these areas.

Outside of a few very isolated showers in the Great Lakes and the northern Plains throughout the afternoon, the WeatherRadar will be quiet.

Rain will also be possible across the central Plains and the Great Lakes, but these showers will just ruin a few outdoor plans. Afternoon showers will also be possible across the Rockies and the western high Plains.
