Breakfast brief
Flood threat for Texas, Louisiana

Today's top story is ongoing thunderstorms and a storm complex sweeping across Texas and into Louisiana, bringing a deluge of rain and an increased flood risk.

This day in history

On May 2nd, 2010, Nashville and several other communities of middle Tennessee flooded as as more than a foot of rain fell over the Cumberland Valley since the beginning of the month. Damage estimates were $2.3 billion.

Today's weather outlook

The WeatherRadar shows strong thunderstorms and a storm complex moving across eastern Texas and northern Louisiana today. This is producing downpours that could dump upwards of 6 inches of rain across the same area that received 4 to 6 inches of rain early Monday. This will increase the risk of flash flooding.

Breakfast brief
Heavy rain moves across Texas.

Meanwhile, the cooler-than-average week continues across most of the Northwest and Mountain West. However, a slight warm-up will finally take hold across the Southwest and California with more lower elevation inland spots climbing into the upper 80s and low 90s.

Speaking of hot weather, temperatures will skyrocket across the Midwest and East Coast Thursday. Highs will be in the upper 80s and even low 90s, with another run of daily record possibly being broken from Indianapolis to Washington, D.C.

News we're covering today:

  • Flood threat from Texas to Louisiana
  • Record-breaking heat returns
  • Northwest stay cool
