Breakfast brief
More Texas flood troubles

Friday review

Another round of downpours and thunderstorms are rolling across Texas, the southern Plains and the lower Mississippi Valley Friday. This will increase the threat of flash flooding.

2013 El Reno Tornado

On this day in 2013, the El Reno, Okla., tornado occurred. It would kill 8 people, including four storm chasers. It was the widest tornado on record, reaching 2.5 miles in width.

Today's weather outlook

WeatherRadar indicates another storm complex rolling across Texas and the southern Plains. It will move into the Ozarks and the lower Mississippi Valley, bringing downpours and an increased threat of flooding. Fresh storms will develop across the high western Plains once again. Hail and damaging winds are the biggest threats.

In contrast, the Great Lakes, Ohio Valley, Appalachians and much of the Atlantic Seaboard from the Carolinas northward will be dry and have below-average temperatures today. A gradual warming trend over the weekend should bring temperatures in these regions closer to typical June levels.

In the southern regions, including the Desert Southwest, southern Texas, and southern Florida, conditions will remain hot. Heat index values will exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit in most of these areas. Even California's interior will start to feel like summer, with more triple digit readings becoming more common.
