Breakfast brief
Rain and snow for the West Coast

The West Coast continues to be impacted by rain, mountain snow, and gusty winds as a potent low spins over the region. A powerful storm has also wreaked havoc in the Northeast over the last couple of days. Hundreds of thousands of people were without power in New England yesterday due to heavy snow and gusty winds. Lingering snow showers will add a few more inches to snow totals in the Northeast today.

Coldest April temperature on record

The temperature at Eagles Nest, NM, plunged to 45 degrees below zero to establish an April record for the United States.

Today's weather outlook

A powerful low-pressure system continues to impact the West Coast, bringing rain and mountain snow. This moisture will shift east today, bringing rain, snow, and high winds to the Great Basin and Intermountain West today and into the weekend.

Low pressure system

Several inches of snow fell in the Northeast and New England over the last couple of days and a few more inches are possible today as this system lingers. Widespread power outages impacted the region yesterday due to heavy snow and gusty winds. The snow will taper off by the second half of the weekend as this system finally moves out.

News we're covering today:

  • Late-season snow continues for New England.
  • Rain and mountain snow for the West Coast and Great Basin.
  • Upcoming solar eclipse on Monday.
