Severe storms are back in the forecast

Severe storms return to the southern U.S. while winter's chill and snow stay in the northern tier.

Today's weather outlook

An emerging low pressure out of northern Mexico will bring more steady rain and possibly multiple rounds of severe storms to the southern Plains and Gulf Coast Thursday. This storm will evolve over the southern tier and eventually move into the Southeast bringing flooding rains and more severe weather by Friday.

To the north, winter's grip is tight. Temperatures will continue to be below average for this time of year, and snow is expected across the northern Plains and Upper Midwest. An exiting storm in the Northeast will also drop an additional 8 inches of snow before the lunch hour.
