Breakfast brief
Severe threat spreads eastward

Tuesday WeatherRadar

After a busy Monday afternoon and night filled with severe weather across the southern and central Plains, the threat for severe storms shift into the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes.

Great Natchez tornado

On May 7, 1840, a tornado struck Natchez, Miss., killing at least 317 people. It is the second deadliest tornado in history. The Tri-state tornado of 1925 is the deadliest.

Today's weather outlook

The WeatherRadar shows the big storms that rolled across the Plains late Monday and early this morning moving into the Mississippi Valley. They will re-energize and could produce a fresh round of damaging winds, hail and tornadoes later Tuesday afternoon.

The same system will bring heavy rain into the Midwest and northern Plains. Localized flooding will be possible across the Midwest and Great Lakes.

May 7 Tuesday weather outlookTuesday May 7th weather outlook

Winter won't give up its grip just yet across the Mountain West. High elevation snow will still be possible across the highest spots of the northern Rockies and Cascades. For the rest of the West Coast, it will remain unseasonably cold, with highs only in the 50s and 60s across the Northwest, while California will only in the 70s and 80s. A few spots in the Southwest will reach 90.

The East and South will be warm, with highs in the 70s and 80s throughout. Some late-day showers will roll across the Mid-South, Appalachians and Mid-Atlantic.
