Breakfast Brief
Soggy Midweek for Great Lakes, East

A busy week full of storms continues today, with the Northeast and Great Lakes getting into the act. A spring-like chill settles over more of the U.S. even as quieter weather settles across the rest of the U.S. The Breakfast Brief is published Monday through Friday at 5:00 a.m. Eastern Time.

The same spring storm system that brought dangerous and destructive severe storms to the Plains, Mississippi Valley and Deep South continues its slow walk eastward. Although not as potent today, it will bring heavy rain and a few rumbles of thunder across the northern Plains, upper Midwest, Great Lakes, Appalachians and Mid-Atlantic. A soggy Wednesday is on tap for the highly populated I-95 corridor from Richmond, Va., through New York City, including Washington, D.C., Baltimore and Philadelphia.

Across its western flank, some wet snow will fall across North Dakota as a spring chill takes a detour into the U.S.

The southern reach of this spring storm will become a stationary front along the Gulf Coast, producing afternoon downpours and thunderstorms from southern Louisiana eastward into the Florida Panhandle. Although scattered, these storms could produce localized flooding if a storm stays over one area for several hours. Use the WeatherRadar to track these storms and downpours.

The mid-week temperatures will be decidedly unseasonable throughout the Mountain West, northern Plains, Great Lakes and the throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. Afternoon highs will only be in the 50s and 60s, while the Dakotas will struggle to get out of the 30s. Minneapolis will not reach 50 degrees Wednesday. All of these temperatures are well below normal as spring hits the homestretch.

The only warm spots will be Florida, where 90s will be possible in the interior, including Orlando and Miami. Even Phoenix will only be in the upper 80s Wednesday. Check out all of the nation's temperatures using the TemperatureRadar.
