Breakfast Brief
Storms bring silver lining

Severe storms have plagued the northern tier of the U.S. this week with damaging winds and heavy, flooding rain. While another round of storms is expected today across the East, they come with a silver lining.

Did you know?

On this day in 1996, a record-breaking rainstorm hit the Chicago area, causing significant flooding. Aurora, Illinois, recorded an unprecedented 16.94 inches of rain, leading to excessive flooding across the Chicago suburbs

Tuesday saw numerous damaging wind reports across several Northeast states caused by an upper-level low-pressure system that triggered strong storms. As we move into Wednesday, expect another active weather day with weaker storms, especially along the front, passing through the region in the afternoon and evening.

A national overview of the prevailing weather across the Continental U.S.

On Wednesday, Temperatures will remain mostly above average for these areas, but the frontal passage will bring a welcome shot of cool, dry air, making conditions normal to slightly cooler than usual for this time of year.

On Tuesday, the cold air behind the front was noticeable across the central Plains and the Mid-Mississippi Valley, where storms and cloud cover, combined with the cooler air, made the afternoon feel up to 30 degrees cooler than Monday.

Tropical update:

Currently, no development is expected over the next seven days.
