A large but slightly disorganized tropical system will come ashore along the Carolina coast today, bringing gusty downpours and some coastal flooding.

The WeatherRadar shows a tropical system just offshore of the Carolina coastline south of Cape Fear and Wilmington, N.C. It is spreading heavy rain across eastern and central North Carolina.

Upwards of 5 inches of rain will fall from eastern South Carolina northward into central and northern North Carolina. This includes Myrtle Beach, S.C., Wilmington, Raleigh and Cape Hatteras, N.C. Localized flash flooding is possible.

On top of the heavy rain, onshore winds on the WindRadar are producing 1 to 3 feet of coastal surge. This will produce coastal flooding and cause beach erosion. The surge of water could reach as far north as the Delmarva and southern New Jersey beaches, producing flooding and beach erosion there too.

The remnants of this system will move northeastward along the Atlantic Seaboard, bringing showers and an overcast sky to the Delaware Valley, New York City, Long Island and southern New England over the next several days.

Track these changes using the WeatherRadar and be sure to check back often for the latest tropical updates.
