Catastrophic flooding in central Texas

Central Texas has been experiencing heavy rainfall for days. The heaviest rain fell overnight into Friday, quickly causing rivers to rise and carry everything away.

The Guadalupe River

The situation worsened quickly as the river rose 20 feet in a matter of a couple hours.

The ground has been saturated for days as deep moisture has been hammering parts of West Texas all week. The moisture migrated eastward, and deeper moisture arrived late this week and sat over the same region for over 16 hours, see the WeatherRadar above, producing catastrophic flooding and causing at least 45 deaths, including over a dozen girls at camp. Several people are still missing.

Central Texas received rainfall in a day that will equal the total precipitation of at least 4 months. Our WetherRadar still shows heavy precipitation falling throughout the day on Sunday, which will keep rivers above flood stages. Please stay away from rivers and flooded areas. There will be a break from all the rain on Sunday night, but keep in mind that it will take a while for levels to come down again.
