Central Plains destructive 100 mph gusts

Flash flood risk, too
Central Plains' destructive 100 mph gusts

Severe weather risk ramps across the Plains with a likely outbreak of severe storms focused over Kansas, southeastern Colorado and northern Oklahoma.

The Plains already had some severe weather to start the day, but there is likely plenty more coming in the afternoon and evening as the storms become more intense and prolific. Wichita, Kansas, Dodge City, Kansas, and Liberal, Kansas, are at a moderate risk, 4 of 5 in the severity scale, for numerous severe weather events that may develop violent tornadoes and destructive winds of 70 to 100 mph.

Severe weather risk across the Plains on Tuesday afternoon and evening.

This area is also at risk of flash floods. The second big round of storms, passing by central and eastern Kansas, will likely move between 8 p.m. and midnight. These storms could produce flooding as the ground is already well saturated from the morning storm rounds. Rainfall could range between 2 and 5 inches, with some isolated areas receiving 7 inches.
