Central U.S. storms: Texas to Great Lakes threat

Texas to Midwest threat
Central U.S. storms

The active severe storm week continues across the central U.S. Severe storms are possible later today from Texas to the Great Lakes. A few storms will be possible across the Northeast too.

A one-two combination of high pressure in the Southeast — the same one producing a major East Coast heat wave — and a weak system moving across the Midwest and high Plains will combine to produce big storms this afternoon and evening.

Dangerous storms will be possible from southwestern Texas northeastward into the Great Lakes and Upper Midwest. Oklahoma City, Kansas City, Omaha, Neb., Des Moines, Iowa, Chicago, Milwaukee and Detroit could all see dangerous storms later this afternoon into this evening.

Large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes are possible from these storms.
