Changes for Florida
Rain worries due to cold front

RAIN

Ian caused major floods across Central Florida and after Ian, much of the state has had a good stretch of dry and cool weather. Since then, temperatures have rebounded and the humidity is back with a vengeance, but there will be changes coming soon, again.

Although this week started mostly dry across Florida, the state will experience some changes in weather as there are two fronts approaching. The first one will lose its speed and punch on Wednesday across Central Florida but will leave enough instability, creating more showers and thunderstorm activity.

The second front comes stronger on Friday and will sweep all the rain and storms out of the Sunshine State just in time to start off the weekend. It will leave behind crisp and sunny weather for the weekend.

What’s the concern?

Florida’s soil continues to be very saturated from all the rains received from Hurricane Ian. Many lakes and river levels, especially across Central Florida, continue to be at the flooding stage. Any additional rain could contribute to these overflowing once again.

Across Central Florida, there could be up to one inch of rain with some isolated areas getting up to 2 inches.

For now, models show that the highest amounts will likely be focused across South Florida. This is because the first front will lose its punch just north of it and the rains will be more constant in South Florida for several days.
