Cold air diving into Deep South, Florida

Cold air dives into South
Arctic blast incoming

Winter arriving early across the South and East.

Winter is arriving early across the eastern U.S. this weekend, sending an early-season freeze deep into the South by early next week. On top of the cold, the season's first lake-effect snow event will unfurl too.

The first signs of this massive winter preview show up on our WeatherRadar as a quick-moving low pressure system rolls out of central Canada and quickly moves into the Midwest and Great Lakes Saturday night.

Dragging a cold front south and east across the Midwest, South and East Coast, the main system will move into eastern Canada by early Monday. This cold front, which will make it as far south a central Florida by early Monday, will pull the coldest air of the season so far southward out of Canada.

The TemperatureRadar shows highs on Sunday only being in the 20s and low 30s across the northern Plains and the Midwest, with 40s and 50s found across the Mid-South. By Monday, Atlanta will only be in the upper 30s, while northern and central Florida will struggle to climb into the upper 50s. This cold trend continues on Tuesday.

In addition to the cold temperatures, Lake-effect snow will fall on Monday, lingering into Tuesday. Western New York and the snowbelts of Ohio and Michigan will see their first significant lake-effect snow accumulation of the year. Track it with WeatherRadar.

The cold front will make it as far south as Florida.
