Daily briefing
Pacific storm approaches

A Pacific storm system will approach the West Coast today, while lake-effect snow continues for the eastern Great Lakes. This, along with our tropical update, is available at 5 a.m. ET in our daily briefing.

Rain will return to much of the West Coast later today as a Pacific storm system approaches. Showers will stretch from San Francisco to Vancouver, Wash., with winds gusting upward of 40 mph along the coast this evening.

The WeatherRadar shows a Pacific Storm approaching the West Coast.

This storm will push further inland on Thursday, bringing more rain and mountain snow to the region. On the other side of the country, lake-effect snow will continue across the eastern Great Lakes.

The TemperatureRadar shows warm air moving east, carving away at the chilly airmass that impacted the eastern half of the country at the beginning of the week. Much milder temperatures will be in place across the South, where highs will reach the 60s and 70s.

Above-average temperatures will push further east, with cities like Houston, Phoenix and Kansas City, experiencing highs 10-15 degrees above average. Below-average highs will linger across the eastern third. New York City will struggle to make it out of the 40s today, with highs staying in the lower 60s in Atlanta and Charlotte, N.C.

Tropical Update

Tropical activity is not expected over the next several days. We continue to monitor the tropics as the Atlantic Hurricane Season lasts until November 30.
