    Daily briefing: Quiet week continues

Daily briefing
Quiet week continues

The quiet work week continues across most of the U.S. However, a bit of autumn showers will make their way into parts of the East and West. This, and our tropical update, are available at 5 a.m. ET in our daily briefing.

The high pressure that has been situated over the Midwest for the past couple of days will remain locked in place, producing another sunny and mild day for much of the East, South, Mississippi Valley and Midwest.

Raindrops and clouds will move across the Mid-Atlantic coast today.

However, the WeatherRadar shows a weak storm system just off the Mid-Atlantic coast today, bringing increasing clouds and some showers to the I-95 corridor from Washington to New York. Showers and even a few thunderstorms will also be possible across Florida and along the Gulf Coast once more.

The western U.S. will also have to contend with its own set of showers, especially across parts of the Northwest and northern California. A few storms will be possible in the Rockies, too.

Everywhere else will be quiet and sunny. The TemperatureRadar shows today's highs will range from the 70s across the Northeast and the Great Lakes to the 80s throughout the central Plains, South and the Mountain West. Texas and the Southwest will be in the 90s, with a few triple digits in the Southwest.

Tropical Update

The tropics are quiet this week. No development is likely over the next several days.

Super Typhoon Bavi threatens Taiwan. 155 mph winds. . Weather Videos. Wednesday, July 8, 2026
The image shows an intense tropical cyclone over the western Pacific, east of Taiwan and the Philippines. The centre of the system is depicted as a light purple and white vortex with a clearly visible eye, surrounded by a ring of red and orange areas indicating the strongest wind speeds. A white arrow marks the typhoon’s predicted track towards the north-west, in the direction of Taiwan. To the west of the storm lie the Philippines, with the cities of Manila and Cebu; to the north of these lies Taiwan, with Taipei. Further west, the Chinese coast, including Hong Kong, and parts of Vietnam can be seen. The coloured wind map shows predominantly green areas outside the storm’s core, indicating significantly weaker winds. White streamlines illustrate the typhoon’s anti-clockwise circulation in the Northern Hemisphere. The highest wind speeds are concentrated around the eye of the cyclone.
