Daily briefing
Rain, snow for PNW, Rockies & Great Lakes

Rain and mountain snow will stretch from the Pacific Northwest to the northern and central Rockies. Meanwhile, snow showers continue across the Midwest through the Northeast. The daily briefing is published every weekday at 5 a.m. ET.

The daily snow showers continue across the Great Lakes through the Northeast today, thanks to the cold low-pressure trough. While the rest of the eastern half stays quiet, South Florida could see a few rain showers.

Eastern activity in the US.WeatherRadar: Eastern rain and snow chances on Wednesday.

The Pacific Northwest and northern and central Rockies have a busier day as a storm system pushes ashore. The precipitation type will depend on elevation but rain and snow will be found from Seattle and Portland through Billings, Mont., and Salt Lake City. By the evening hours, the active weather will make it into the central Rockies and northern Plains.

Highs will remain frigid cold for the eastern two-thirds. Sub-freezing highs will be found from the northern Plains to the Ohio Valley and Northeast, with places like Kansas City, Mo., and Oklahoma City, Okla., barely touching the freezing mark.

Many places across Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee will reach above freezing, helping with snow and ice melt, but it will still be chilly in the 30s and 40s. The Gulf Coast from Texas to Florida will be in the 50s, with South Florida in the mid-60s.

Central and southern California and the Desert Southwest are the warmest places with 60s and 70s, while the Pacific Northwest and Mountain West stay in the 30s and 40s.
