Daily briefing
Rainy focus shifts to Northwest

With Imelda moving away from the Southeast Coast, today's wet weather will be mostly focused on the West Coast today. This, along with our tropical update, is available at 5 a.m. ET in our daily briefing.

Several waves of rain will sweep across the West Coast today, bringing batches of rain to northern California, the Pacific Northwest and into the Intermountain West and northern Rockies. The WeatherRadar shows umbrellas will be needed in San Francisco, Portland, Ore., Seattle and Salt Lake City.

Heavy rain will move into the Northwest and West Coast on Wednesday.

The rest of the U.S. will be mostly dry with just a scattered afternoon shower across the Mississippi Valley, Southeast and Florida. A rumble of thunder cannot be ruled out across southern Florida.

Autumn weather remains on vacation in Canada. The TemperatureRadar shows afternoon temperatures in the 80s across the central and southern U.S. with Texas and Florida rising into the 90s. The Northeast and the Great Lakes are in the 70s with a few spots of northern Maine in the 60s. Across the West, highs are in the 70s with low 80s across southern California. The Southwest will be in the 90s.

Tropical Update

Imelda and Humberto are moving away from the U.S. Southeast Coast today. Imelda could pass near Bermuda later tonight as it continues on a northeast track. No other threats are present.
