Storms roll into East

The East, South, Florida and Texas will contend with more storms today, while summer takes hold across the rest of the U.S. on this first day of July. All of these details are provided daily in the Weather & Radar daily briefing published every weekday at 5 a.m. ET .

A broad frontal system stretching from Texas to the Northeast will be the trigger for big afternoon storms. The WeatherRadar shows that storms hitting Texas, the South and Southeast, Florida, and the Mid-Atlantic will be hit or miss in many places, but those that develop ahead of the front will produce frequent lightning and downpours.

It will be a stormy afternoon across the East and South. It will be a stormy afternoon across the East and South.

Behind the front, the Great Lakes, Midwest, and the central and northern Plains will be mostly sunny with highs in the 80s.

Heading west, afternoon thunderstorms will develop across the Southwest and the southern Rockies as the summer storm pattern takes hold. The rest of the Rockies, Mountain West, and West Coast will be mostly sunny.

The TemperatureRadar shows today's highs ranging from the 80s across most of the U.S. to the 90s and even a few triple digits across the Southwest and Mountain West.

Tropical Update

Florida will need to be monitored for further development over the next several days as the same front that brought today's storms settles across northern Florida. These systems can produce a quick tropical disturbance over the northeastern Atlantic, northeast of Florida, or along the northeast Gulf Coast.
