Daily briefing
Stormy Friday east of Rockies

Summer storm season is in full swing for many parts of the eastern, southern and central U.S. today. The thunderstorm will also bring a flash flood risk to several parts of the southern U.S. The Weather & Radar team of highly experienced meteorologists produces the Daily Briefing, which is published every weekday at 5 a.m. ET.

A broad storm system stretching from the central Plains to the Atlantic Seaboard will trigger rounds of summer thunderstorms. The WeatherRadar shows storms possible from Texas and the south-central Plains, across the Mississippi and Ohio valleys, and into the South, Southeast, and Mid-Atlantic. Rain will fall across the Upper Midwest.

A broad low pressure system brings storms to the South, East and Midwest today.

A flood threat continues across eastern Texas, the Ozarks, and the lower Mississippi Valley, so there are at least three ways to receive weather warnings.

Additional storms are possible over the northern Rockies and the northern high Plains. Across the Northwest, a weak Pacific front is rolling ashore, bringing a few early showers.

Summer temperatures will be in full swing across the West. The TemperatureRadar shows highs in the triple digits across the Southwest, with 105 readings in the greater Phoenix area. The rest of the Mountain West and Great Basin will be in the 80s and 90s. The immediate West Coast, typical of June, will be slightly cooler, with highs in the 60s and 70s.

Tropical Update

The Atlantic Hurricane Basin maintains its quiet status, which is typical for this time of year. The eastern Pacific remains an active spot, however. Two areas of interest are being watched west of the Central American coast.
