Daily briefing
Stormy Rockies, Texas

After a busy start to the work week, the East and Midwest get a bit of a break. However, the same can't be said for Texas, Florida, the Gulf Coast, and the Mountain West. Our meteorologist team produces our Daily Briefing, which is published every weekday promptly at 5 a.m. ET and discusses today's big weather news.

Today's major weather focus will be across Texas. The WeatherRadar shows widespread downpours and thunderstorms will develop throughout the day, with gully-washing downpours triggering local flash flooding across central Texas. Afternoon thunderstorms will be possible across the Gulf Coast and into Florida, too, causing afternoon plans to be interrupted. Make sure alerts are turned on to get the latest about these storms.

Big storms possible across Texas Wednesday.

Afternoon thunderstorms will also erupt across the Mountain West. These more widely scattered storms produce dangerous lightning. Use the Lightning Radar to watch them develop.

The Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest and most Plains will have a quiet Wednesday. A weak system moving across the northern Plains will touch off some rain showers later today, causing soggy conditions across the Twin Cities.

The TemperatureRadar shows summer is in full swing across the U.S. Highs, which will be in the 70s across the Northeast and northern Plains, with most other places in the 80s. The Southwest will be in the 90s, with Phoenix topping out in the triple digits.

Tropical Update

The Atlantic Hurricane Basin, typical for this time of June, is quiet, and no development is expected. The two systems in the Eastern Pacific, Barbara and Cosme, are diminishing as they move over the colder waters well west of Mexico.
