Daily briefing
Two areas with severe threat, cooler West

Some severe storms are expected to impact the northern Plains and upper Midwest on Tuesday, with some areas experiencing storms in the morning. The heat persists in the South, while the West experiences cooler weather. All of this, along with today's tropical outlook, is included in the daily briefing, published every weekday at 5 a.m. ET.

A few severe isolated severe storms will move through the northern plains and Upper Midwest on Tuesday.

A storm will pass over the northern Plains, bringing the chance for a few severe storms on Tuesday morning and be over Minneapolis between noon and 3 p.m. The biggest threat from the storms will be damaging winds and hail. Across the Southeast, especially in the southern half of Georgia and the southern portion of South Carolina, there is also a risk of storms becoming severe, but these will be isolated. The main threat is expected to occur in the late afternoon and evening hours.

A low-pressure system is exiting the Southeast and will move over the Florida Peninsula, increasing the chance for storms to form after the dry and hot weekend. Rain chances will remain higher than average for this time of year through Thursday.

The West will have below-average temperatures. Across Northern California, the TemperatureRadar indicates that afternoon temperatures will remain in the low-60s on Tuesday, as a low-pressure system allows northern winds to bring cooler air. Southern California will also stay much cooler than average, with highs between 5 to 10 degrees below average, only reaching the low 70s. The Inland Empire and deserts will experience toastier temperatures, ranging from the upper 90s to the low 100s, but still below average for the time of year.

Tropical Update

The tropical wave we had been monitoring over the weekend has officially lost its chances of becoming a tropical system. No tropical development is expected within the next 7 days.
