Dallas and Houston hit hard on Tuesday

Powerful storms knocked out power to over one million customers in Texas on Tuesday. The severe weather threat isn't over yet, with many of the same areas that were hit on Tuesday at risk for the remainder of the week.

Whipping winds and large hail cut power to millions of customers across the Lone Star State on Tuesday, with more than 400,000 still without power as of Wednesday morning. The video above shows the strength of these whipping winds as power lines sparked behind a Dallas home early in the morning on Tuesday.

Powerful thunderstorms roared across Texas yesterday, bringing baseball-sized hail to communities north of Dallas and hurricane-force wind gusts across the Metroplex. Chances for strong storms will remain through the end of the week. Today's risk includes a slight risk, a level 2 out of 5 of severe storms, in southwestern Texas, with a marginal risk, a level 1 out of 5, across the western and eastern portions of the state.

The WeatherRadar shows scattered strong storms this afternoon and evening that may produce severe hail and wind across the northern and central High Plains late this afternoon and evening. Isolated large hail will also be possible in southwest Texas. While the tornado risk remains low, there is the risk of an isolated tornado in these locations.

Thursday and Friday also bring slight risks to the central and southern Plains. Wind, hail, and isolated tornadoes are possible on Thursday, with the greatest threat extending across southeastern Colorado into north central Texas. Friday's risk of strong storms extends across east Texas into western Louisiana and southwestern Arkansas.
