Severe threat for Midwest, Great Lakes

Severe weather is possible from the Midwest to the Mid-Atlantic today, but the greatest risk of powerful storms will be across Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.

Severe storms ripped through the northern Plains on Wednesday. Today, the risk shifts east. While severe weather is possible stretching from the Midwest to the Mid-Atlantic, the most significant threat will be centered along the Great Lakes.

All types of severe are possible today, including winds gusting up to 70 mph, large hail in excess of 2" and strong tornadoes (EF-2 ).

Tornadoes are possible in the area shaded in red on the WeatherRadar.

Cities like Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison, Wis., and Naperville, Ill., are within the corridor of the greatest risk of strong tornadoes this afternoon and evening.
