Record heat in Texas, Mid-Atlantic flood threat

08:00 AM
May 13, 2025

Breakfast Brief
Record heat in Texas

High temperature records are at risk in Texas as triple-digit temperatures enter the picture. As low pressure meanders toward the Mid-Atlantic, flash flooding remains a concern. The Breakfast Brief is published Monday through Friday at 5:00 a.m. Eastern Time.

You'll want to look at the TemperatureRadar today as numerous record highs are at risk. Temperatures will soar into the 90s and 100s today in Texas, with record highs possible in cities like Dallas, Austin, Waco, San Antonio, Abilene and Houston.

The TemperatureRadar shows highs in the 100s across much of southern Texas today.

Well above-average temperatures extend across the central Plains into the northern Plains and Upper Midwest. Bismarck and Grand Forks, N.D., will also be experiencing potential record highs today.

The meandering low pressure that led to a soggy Mother's Day weekend across the Southeast will bring the risk of flash flooding to the Mid-Atlantic today. Cities like Richmond and Virginia Beach, Va., and Washington, D.C., should be alert to flooding today. Between 1 and 3 inches is expected from northern North Carolina to eastern Pennsylvania today.

The western third of the country will continue to see active conditions. The WeatherRadar shows rain and mountain snow moving east into Utah, Montana, Idaho and Wyoming throughout the day.
