Early Saturday
Partial solar eclipse for the Northeast

June 10, 2021, partial solar eclipse over Lewes Beach, Delaware by NASA/Aubrey Gemignani.

A partial solar eclipse will occur on Saturday, March 29, 2025. New Englanders and Northeast residents have the best viewing experience. But will the weather cooperate?

While it won't be anything like the full solar eclipse the U.S. experienced in April 2024 (and won't experience again until 2044), this partial eclipse will be a great way to start a Friday morning.

The sun will be eclipsed by this month's new moon by at least 22 percent over Boston, Portland, Maine, New York City, and Philadelphia, with better coverage the further into the Northeast you go. In Maine, the sun will be eclipsed by more than 60 percent.

If you are planning to witness the partial eclipse, remember the early bird catches the worm. It will be happening between 6 and 7 a.m. local time. The WeatherRadar shows a spring snowstorm bringing wintry and icy conditions to much of the Northeast, with rain impacting Boston.

Best viewing conditions will be in far northern Maine as well as in Philadelphia and New York where skies will be clear.
