Ernesto's latest
Hurricane passing near Bermuda Saturday

Earnesto, now a large Category 2 hurricane, is heading for Bermuda this weekend.

The hurricane has strengthened over the past several days after hitting the Leeward Islands and the Greater Antilles earlier this week as a tropical storm. Its next stop will be Bermuda, an island in the middle Atlantic, before it heads northeast, staying far away from the U.S. Coast. Preparations are already underway on the island.

Conditions will deteriorate across the island Friday night with the worst weather hitting the island Saturday afternoon. Wind gusts in excess of 100 mph will knock out power, 6 to 12 inches of rainfall will produce localized flooding and storm surge will be accompanied by battering surf.

As we reported on Thursday Ernesto will bring collateral impacts to the U.S. through the weekend. Beachgoers along the Atlantic Coast should only go into the Atlantic at guarded beaches. Rip Currents and rough surf will be generated by Ernesto.
