Explosive winter scene
Mount Etna's snow-covered eruption

With all eyes on volcanic activity in Iceland, Italy's Mount Etna erupted last week, creating a fiery scene amid snowy surroundings.

The lava flows that were released during the last eruption on November 12th have not yet cooled completely, meaning recent snowfall has not been able to settle, and their paths remain dark.

Strombolian activity signals that Europe's most active volcano, after a period of inactivity lasting several months, is making its voice heard again.
