Dangerous storms will roll across the central Plains later this afternoon and evening, producing damaging winds and large hail. This is the start of an active storm weekend across the Plains.

The trigger for today's storms will be a cold front making its way across the north-central Plains. This front, interacting with unseasonably hot air with highs approaching 90 degrees on the TemperatureRadar, will produce rapidly developing thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.

The WeatherRadar shows the storms developing this afternoon and strengthening throughout the evening into tonight. Omaha, Neb., and Des Moines, Iowa, could be some of the biggest cities to be hit by these storms.

A similar weather pattern continues over the weekend, with afternoon thunderstorms possible throughout the Plains on Saturday and Sunday.
