Fire risk for the northern Plains

Low pressure will dip into the northern Plains today, bringing strong winds and the potential for fires to the region.

The WindRadar shows gusty winds across the northern Plains today. Low humidity values are also in the mix, a combination which will keep the fire danger critical today.

How the weather increases fire riskread more

Winds will gust to near 50 mph in cities like Bismarck, N.D. It will also be windy in Fargo, N.D., and Rapid City, S.D.

Tomorrow the fire threat will move to the Southwest. Cities like Las Cruces, N.M. and El Paso, Texas, will see low humidity and wind gusts higher than 20-30 mph.
