Tropical moisture at play
Flood threat for the East into weekend

Flash flooding is a concern today along I-95 and across the Mid-Atlantic and parts of the Northeast.

The WeatherRadar is already active this morning with a soggy start from Myrtle Beach, S.C., to New York. A stalled front will continue to tap into tropical moisture throughout the day, bringing heavy downpours and flash flooding to parts of the East Coast.

The source of the tropical moisture is a tropical low off the coast of the Carolinas. While this low will not develop, it is sending tropical moisture northward and enhancing the threat of flash flooding.

Today's flood threat extends from South Carolina to Connecticut, with the Mid-Atlantic seeing the highest threat of flooding. Cities including Raleigh, N.C., Washington D.C., Philadephia and New York could see quickly rising waters at any time today. Up to 3 inches of rain will be possible with some locally heavier downpours.

By Saturday, the stalled front will move east, but some heavy downpours and the threat of flooding will linger in southern New England. If you want to dodge the rain, make sure to check out the WeatherRadar before heading out.
