Florida's record low temperatures, day and night-- plus winds!

Florida gets ready for a big drop in temperatures. The lows in recent days, won't be near the highs on the weekend. Also, with the strong winds in place, the temperatures will feel much colder. For some cities, temperatures this cold has not happened in a decade!

It’s all connected! The big winter storm, known as a Nor’easter, that will impact parts of the Northeast with heavy rounds of snow, strong winds and coastal flooding will pull arctic air to the south.

Temperatures across the Southeast will be very cold, but the record cold maximum temperatures (and some minimums) will be most felt across South Florida.

There is a freeze watch in effect from Broward- Collier Counties northward. As temperarures will likely be subfreezing for several hours before sunrise on Saturday evening into Sunday morning. Hard freeze watches are in effect for Volusia and Lake counties in Central Florida, temperatures are expected to be between the mid to upper 20s early on Sunday morning.

On Friday, the cold front will be crossing the state from north to south. There could be some showers moving through, but the most nuisance will come from the clouds. Due to the cloud coverage, the temperatures will struggle to reach 60 degrees across north Florida and the mid-60s across central Florida. South Florida will get some sunshine, which will allow the temperatures to reach the mid-70s.

The front clears north and central Florida overnight, and Saturday will be much cooler and sunnier across the northern half of the state. South Florida will struggle with some clouds early on Saturday, but clouds will clear after noon. Temperatures will be falling during the afternoon for south Florida, even as sunshine reigns.

Record cold high temperatures will be likely for Daytona Beach, Winter Haven, Melbourne, Vero Beach, West Palm Beach, and Fort Myers. Sunday morning will remain with subfreezing record low temperatures from Sanford (just north of Orlando) through the Treasure Coast.

Orlando could tie the record low temperature of 31 degrees set in 1966. Port St. Lucie is also set to mark 31 degrees on Sunday morning, which would beat the record low established in 1966.

In Fort Lauderdale, the record low of 38 degrees set in 1978 could be erased from the record board. Coastal South Florida has not seen temperatures in the 30s since 2010. At the moment, lows are forecast to stay above 40 degrees. Inland locations will definitely fall below 35 degrees, which could trigger frost advisories. These advisories will likely be in place for Saturday evening into Sunday and Sunday evening into Monday morning.

The Florida wildlife will also feel the cold weather effects!

Temperatures will gradually rebound by the beginning of next week but will remain below average, at least through Wednesday.
